9 Epic Summer Experiences at North Seattle Parks

If you’ve experienced a Seattle summer, then you know that our city really shows off this time of year. When temps hit the 70s, Seattleites emerge from hibernation and we make the most of every single ray of sunshine!

In addition to sharing epic summer experiences at North Seattle parks, we are also shining the spotlight on our latest listing in North Seattle. This bright and better-than-new home is in the Haller Lake neighborhood, and it’s not far off from all of these parks!

Each of these 9 North Seattle parks comes with a long list of attractions, but we’ve gotten more specific with our recommendations and highlighted the not-to-miss summer experience at each one.

Green Lake

Rent a Kayak, Paddle Board & More to Get Out On the Water

Green Lake Park is THE place to be on a gorgeous summer day. Greenlake Boathouse offers boat rentals, including paddle boards, kayaks, water bikes, pedal boats and more. They also have a coffee shop so you can grab a drink and a snack. If the water’s not your thing, get your steps in on the 2.8-mile loop that wraps around the lake.

Golden Gardens Park

Perfect for a Picnic on a Sandy Beach

Seattleites especially love Golden Gardens for its classic sandy beach. Spread out a towel to sunbathe on a hot day or set up a picnic blanket for all of your friends. Golden Gardens is a popular place for bonfires in the evening, especially since this west-facing park shows off some of the most spectacular sunset views in the city.

Woodland Park

Try a New Sport Like Lawn Bowling or Bocce

Most people have heard of Woodland Park Zoo, but not as many folks know that the zoo is just one element of this massive park! Woodland Park is a multipurpose park and is also a great spot to try out a new sport. There are playfields, tennis courts, lawn bowling, horseshoe pits, a skatepark and more, and the park is also home to Woodland Park Club (which offers lawn bowling, bocce, and croquet). Also: Although Green Lake Pitch & Putt is technically part of Green Lake Park, it is literally right next to Woodland Park.

Matthews Beach

Fun Freshwater Swimming

Located on the shores of Lake Washington, Matthews Beach is Seattle’s largest freshwater beach for swimming. Matthews Beach has lifeguards, and you can even take free swim lessons! It’s a lovely spot for the whole fam.

Gas Works Park

Classic Seattle Views to Impress Your Out-of-Town Visitors

If you have guests coming into town, Gas Works is of course a must-visit park. The park itself is unique, but the views of Lake Union, the skyline, the Space Needle, and boats floating by really cannot be beat. If your visitors are looking for that perfect Instagram pic, this is it. Gas Works is especially epic on the 4th of July. Sure, it’s a busy day at the park, but you’ve gotta experience views of 4th of July fireworks over Lake Union here at least once!

Ravenna Ravine in Ravenna Park

Cool Off on a Hot Summer Day

Ravenna Park includes several amenities including a play area and wading pool, but its most unique feature is the Ravenna Ravine. You can take a mini hike through this wooded, hidden oasis where Ravenna Creek runs through. The ravine is absolutely surrounded by lush greenery, and much of the park is shaded, keeping it a few degrees cooler on extra hot days.

Discovery Park

Check Out Sea Creatures in Tide Pools

With 560 acres, Discovery Park is Seattle’s largest park and offers a dynamic range of activities. It’s right on the water, and it’s actually kind of wild that this enormous park is right here in the city! One of the neatest things about the park is the fact that there are tide pools where you can get a closer look at sea anemones, star fish, crabs, and many other sea creatures during low tide. So if you’re hoping to explore the tide pools, make sure you time your visit with the tides.

Magnuson Park

A Pup’s Paradise with a Dog-Friendly Beach

At 350 acres, Magnuson is Seattle’s second largest park and it’s right on the shores of Lake Washington. There is so much to do and see at Magnuson Park, but it is especially amazing for doggies! The 8.6-acre off-leash dog park includes a trail, a small/shy dog area, and Magnuson is also the only Seattle park with an off-leash dog park with water access!

Carkeek Park

Explore 6 Miles of Trails

An expansive network of trails wind their way through this 216-acre waterfront park filled with forests, meadows, wetlands, creeks, and more. Carkeek Park is the perfect spot for when you want that “lost in nature” feeling but you’re not quite in the mood to head out of town. There’s plenty more to do here, too—a playground, picnic amenities, the beach, and more mean you can come back time and time again and always find something new.
