The Best Eastside Neighborhoods for a Walkable Lifestyle

The Best Eastside Neighborhoods for a Walkable Lifestyle

“Walkable” can mean a lot of different things, depending on who you ask. For our purpose here, we’re defining “walkability” as being close to dining, shopping, and other amenities and attractions. It means you don’t have to hop in the car every time you want to go somewhere.

Before I dive into sharing the Eastside neighborhoods with the best walkability, there are a couple of common questions I want to answer:

What does the “Eastside” refer to?

Good question! The “Eastside” refers to the cities that are to the east of Seattle, with Lake Washington separating Seattle and the Eastside. The Eastside includes cities like Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Sammamish, Issaquah, Woodinville, and Bothell.

Do you have to own a car to live on the Eastside?

In my opinion, none of the Eastside is going to be very car-free friendly. Not even Downtown Bellevue, unfortunately. Of course, being car-free can be done, but the car-free lifestyle is much more doable in neighboring Seattle.

Eastside Neighborhoods with Best Walkability Organized by City

The Most Walkable Neighborhoods in Kirkland

Kirkland is definitely the #1 city for great walkability on the Eastside. Oftentimes, folks who are moving from Seattle to the Eastside choose Krikland, because it’s one of the Eastside suburbs with the most Seattle-like vibe. There’s more dentistry in Kirkland, so you feel like you’re in more of an urban setting with a little more energy.

Neighborhoods in Kirkland with the best walkability include Downtown Kirkland, Moss Bay, Houghton, Juanita, East of Market, and West of Market. (Hot tip: Market street runs north-south, and it used to be the main road in the area. If you live West of Market, it typically means you’ll have a water view, whereas East of Market means you probably won’t)

It also just so happens that our latest listing at 327 4th Avenue S, Kirkland, WA 98033 offers incredible walkability. Located in the Moss Bay neighborhood and a quick stroll to Downtown Kirkland (some would say this home is actually in Downtown Kirkland, but depends who you ask!), this home is literally just blocks to dining, shopping, parks, entertainment, services, and more.

The Most Walkable Neighborhoods in Bellevue

Downtown Bellevue, Surrey Downs, Crossroads, and Enatai are all neighborhoods in Bellevue that offer a more walkable lifestyle.

The Most Walkable Neighborhoods in Redmond

For walkability in Redmond, Downtown Redmond and Redmond Ridge neighborhoods are your best bet!

The Most Walkable Neighborhoods in Issaquah

There is some excellent walkability in Issaquah’s Olde Town neighborhood. Front Street here is at the heart of the neighborhood and homes spreat out from here. Issaquah Highlands also has some great walkability.

The Most Walkable Neighborhoods in Woodinville

Downtown Woodinville and the tourist district/Hollywood Hill (where all of the wineries are at!) are both super walkable neighborhoods in Woodinville.

The Most Walkable Neighborhoods in Bothell

Downtown Bothell is where all of the walkability is!
